Christmas Day is celebrated on the 25th December each year in a number of Christian societies. From a religious point of view it is often marked as the birth of Christ, although it has been argued that text mentioned in the Bible, puts his actual Birthdate more in the Spring season than Winter. Furthermore, it is argued that Christmas Day (or Xmas Day) in a religious context was created to usurp pagan religious celebreations. It is perhaps quite ironic then that in the modern age, Christmas for many people is now primarily about giving presents to one another, Christmas trees and Father Christmas aka Santa Claus.
Father Christmas is a fictional chcracter that was created via the mix of an actual Saint from the pat – St. Nicholoas who was famously known for secretly bestowing gifts upon people. He is also said to be based on the Father Christmas character seen in Charles Dicken’s A Christmas Carol for the influence on costume design and appearance.
Flying reindeers, elves, sleighs and all the other Christmas creatures and goings on are of course a result of us doing what we do best when telling a tale – letting our imagination run wild.
This time of course regardless of any fiction is a time for coming together and forgivness. Families that do not see each other much during the year will famously come together at this time and heal any rifts. Just avoid the soap operas as most of them like to have something miserable in the works. Fluff does not sell as well as drama of course. But do you want negativity on this day? Well that is your choice of course. Just remember to don your Father Christmas costume if spirits dip to cheer everyone up again.
